first_imgU16 medley relay team with Gerry davenport community games and coach Conor Boyce.Swilly Seals have put in a tremendous performance at the Community Games Finals in Athlone.More than 20 swimmers from the club took a short break after a busy season that ended in May.They then hit the water for a 7 week block of intense training in preparation for the national finals. And boy did all that training paid off. There were some brilliant swims with all swimmers setting personal best times.Sinead O’Kane finished 4th in the 50m breaststroke final and Jonathan Martin placed 4th in the 50m backstroke final. But the excitement peaked in the last two events of the weekend with the u13 freestyle relay winning bronze medals. The team was made up of Thomas Keys, Oisin Sheridan, NIall Diver, Eoin Bonar and subs Conor Sheilds and Johnny Lambe. They won their heat and semi final convincingly and led the final right up to the last 2 metres. The next and last event of the competition saw the u16 medley relay team win gold with a brilliant display of technique and power finishing just two metres ahead of second place. The medley relay team were Jonathan Martin backstroke, Rory Boyce breaststroke, Brian Diver butterfly and Thomas Coyle freestyle and subs were Conal Bonar and Gerry Drumm. The atmosphere was electric and both coaches Conor and Anthony (both Rathmullan men!) and parents were extremely proud of the swimmers. There will be a short break of two weeks for these athletes before returning to training in September for another exciting year of competition.
