first_imgCHEKHOV, Russia — South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson led the U.S. to its record sixth straight women’s under-19 world basketball title and seventh overall, scoring 30 points in the Americans’ 78-70 victory over Russia on July 26 in the championship game.Wilson broke the U.S. women’s scoring record in a U19 game and averaged 18.3 points in the tournament to take MVP honors.“It was so tough,” Wilson said about playing against host Russia. “I thought away games were tough, but playing an away game in a whole different country against the home team is just out of this world. They had such great fans that were non-stop cheering.”Duke’s Azura Stevens added 18 points to help the U.S. finish the tournament 7-0.Daria Kolosovskaia led Russia (6-1) with 19 points.
