New Caledonia eyes Aussie market

Australians are high on the priority list for New Caledonia’s tourism leaders, as the destination readjusts its focus to develop strong and sustainable tourism.Speaking to e-Travel Blackboard at last night’s Soiree Seminar in Sydney, New Caledonia president of the southern province and chairwoman of the tourism board, Cynthia Ligeard explained although mining was the country’s main resource, the government was now making tourism a priority, with a particular focus in building a sustainable sector to preserve the destination’s unspoiled scenery.Placing Aussies at the top of the market list, Ms Ligeard said the destination had seen “significant growth” from the Australian market, but expects proximity and difference in culture to play a key role in attracting more Australians to the destination.“We can offer summer in winter in just a couple of hours,” she noted.“And we also offer a different culture, the French culture without going to Europe.“We have what the Pacific Islands have plus more.”Following closely behind Australians, Ms Ligeard said New Zealand was also a market of interest for New Caledonia as well as Japan.For more information click back onto e-Travel Blackboard tomorrow, otherwise click here to see pictures from last night’s Soiree Seminar in Sydney.Source = e-Travel Blackboard: NJ read more
