CFPB plows ahead with public consumer complaint database

first_imgIndustry vows to halt publishing unverified, anonymous Trey GarrisonDespite numerous objections from the mortgage finance industry and some basic reasoning that publishing unvetted, anonymous complaints on a government website could be problematic, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is moving ahead with its plan for opening its consumer complaint database to the public. When consumers submit a complaint to the CFPB, they now have the option to share their version of the interaction on the CFPB’s public-facing Consumer Complaint Database.Businesses complained about will have little recourse to respond to or deny the complaints, and could face sanctions for violating financial privacy if they post consumer-specific evidence that is contrary to the claim.Under the proposed plan, the CFPB employs no mechanism to verify the complaints, beyond that there was an interaction between the complaining party and the company named. This action marks the second time in recent memory the regulatory agency has moved ahead on an initiative despite industry concerns. It has kept its mortgage tracker tool up despite numerous problems cited by the industry. continue reading » 2SHARESShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblrlast_img read more

Garuda to require entry permits from Jakarta-bound passengers

first_imgPassengers can file a SIKM request via the Jakarta administration’s website at president director Irfan Setiaputra told that the new policy was in compliance with the Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation No.47/2020 regarding the city’s entry and exit controls.Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan recently issued an order banning people from entering or leaving Jakarta, one of the cities in Indonesia hardest-hit by the virus, without prior approval.“We’re currently discussing compliance with the policy with other authorities,” Irfan said on Tuesday. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will require Jakarta-bound passengers to present an exit and entry permit (SIKM) for the city prior to boarding from Tuesday onward, as the country attempts to curb COVID-19 transmission while reopening the economy. All passengers who wish to board flights to Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport must also show medical letters from hospitals stating that they are COVID-19 negative based on a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, according to a circular letter issued by the company on Tuesday.“We are announcing that all customers who wish to board a flight bound for Soekarno-Hatta [International Airport] must comply with the document requirements starting from May 26,” the letter reads. Garuda’s low-cost carrier subsidiary, Citilink, is also preparing to announce the same requirements for its passengers, the company’s president director Juliandra Nurtjahjo said.“If flight [schedules] resume under a ‘new normal’ on June 1 and the SIKM requirement is still in effect, we will comply with the policy,” Juliandra told who do not provide the two required documents must self-quarantine for 14 days in hotels selected by the government’s COVID-19 Task Force. The task force will not cover the accommodation costs during the quarantine period. The appointed hotels in the Indonesian capital are Novotel Gajahmada, Mercure Jakarta, Mercure Batavia, Pullman Central Park, Gran Mercure Kemayoran, Mercure Harmoni and Holiday Inn Jakarta Kemayoran.During the Idul Fitri celebrations on May 24, Garuda Indonesia operated 14 flights through Soekarno Hatta airport, with a maximum of 50 percent occupancy, as required by the government.“Most of our flights are operated below 50 percent capacity to ensure the safety of our passengers and to adhere with physical distancing rules,” Irfan said on Sunday in a press release.Topics :last_img read more

Forbes names Pittsburgh Penguins fans best in NHL

first_imgThe Winnipeg Jets and Nashville Predators held up the back of the top 10 at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively. In addition, the St. Louis Blues take seventh place, while the Montreal Canadiens reportedly fell off Forbes’ top 10 ranking entirely this year.Settimi wrote that it rates team’s fan bases on the following metrics: local television ratings (Nielsen and local Canadian reports), stadium attendance based on capacity reached, secondary ticket market (via StubHub, specifically), merchandise sales (from Fanatics) and social media reach based on the team’s metro area population. The publication said it noted no distinct correlation between its list of most valuable NHL teams in 2019 (the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs top that list) and its ranking of best fan bases. Forbes released its rankings of the top fans around the NHL  on Friday— and Pittsburgh Penguins fans topped the list. The media company named the Penguins, Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks as having the league’s best fan bases. According to Forbes’ Christina Settimi, it’s the third time Sidney Crosby’s team has topped their list since they started creating it annually in 2009. All three teams have seen tremendous success this decade; the Blackhawks won the most Stanley Cups (three) of any team, the Penguins won back-to-back championships in 2015 and 2016 and the Bruins won it all in 2011 and returned to the playoffs’ final round twice more. According to the report’s research, Nielsen ratings show the Blackhawks are currently a more popular draw on television than the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, and that Chicago-area sports fans are more likely to have watched, attended or listened to a Blackhawks game than a Bulls contest.MORE: Flyers’ Oskar Lindblom diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, expected to miss rest of seasonForbes did not disclose its entire 31-team ranking in order to protect sensitive data, but it did reveal a few other insights from its study of fans in 2019. The Vegas Golden Knights, a franchise in just its third season of play, ranked as the league’s fourth-best fan base.“There is a unique bond between the fans and this city. Part of that is we are Vegas-born and the first ones here,” Vegas team president Kerry Bubolz told Forbes.last_img read more
