Unlike most years when south Georgia’s weather goes straight from winter to summer, there was a spring this year and some cooler-than-usual temperatures at night. This harmed the early watermelon crop, he said. By Allie ByrdUniversity of GeorgiaIndependence Day celebrations include fireworks, cookouts and, often, big slices of ripe, juicy watermelon. Georgia’s melon crop is sweet but smaller this year. Prices will be slightly higher. Even with the difference in yield and the recent hot and dry weather, consumers can expect the size and sweetness of watermelons to be normal. Although the crop is smaller, the price shouldn’t be drastically different from previous years. “We’re going to have plenty of watermelons available for the 4th of July this year,” said Terry Kelley, a horticulturist with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension. “But we do know the crops were a little bit short this year.” “Wind did a lot of damage to the plants early on, which caused the early fruit on the plant to not be as prolific as they would be in a normal year,” Kelley said. “Price may be a touch higher, but should be in the same ballpark as watermelons have been for the past three to five years,” he said. “There won’t be a huge increase at the retail level, but growers may be getting a better price.” Farmers need the higher prices, he said. Production costs for watermelon and other crops have jumped tremendously in recent years.Georgia is entering the heavy harvest season and, Kelley said, the supply will likely increase as we approach and go beyond the holiday.

Among those in attendance were golf fans of all ages—including some youngsters who were pumped to get their first chance at watching the pros up close.“It’s so cool here, my favorite golfer is Jason Day, well and Dustin Johnson,” 9-year-old Kyle Kurjiaka enthusiastically told the Press as Day and Johnson’s group made its way through the 15th hole.Golf’s horizons have expanded, as has its following, which seemingly gains in popularity every time the sport makes a stop on the Island. It’s something the PGA has recognized, as four more events have been scheduled at Bethpage Black, a public course, through 2027, including the PGA Championship in 2019.“It’s his first year playing, so we figured we’d come out and get an appreciation for it, get a feel for Bethpage Black,” Plainview native Brian Powers said on behalf of his grandson, as he watched a Lucas Glover tee shot in awe. “It’s terrific here.”Seated atop golf’s pinnacle are Aussie Jason Day, 23-year-old phenome Jordan Spieth, and five-time major champion and fan favorite Phil Mickelson. For sure, Long Island loves its golf—and those who make the sport what it is.“New York loves you, Phil!” one spectator shouted as Mickelson watched his tee shot soar on the par three 17th hole.Mickelson is no stranger to Bethpage Black. He’s played in each of the three tournaments that the Black has hosted, which includes two second place finishes at the US Open in ’02 and ’09.As Mickelson was staring down an approach shot, the result of a shanked drive on the outskirts of the 16th hole, spectators relished the chance to come within feet of the world’s 13th ranked golfer.“Phil, you need to go left of the pin here,” one spectator whispered as Mickelson sized up his shot. “I agree,” Mickelson replied with a smirk. And as 1 p.m. approached, anticipation for the aforementioned Spieth’s Bethpage premier did, too. He walked to the tee box and was serenaded by fans chanting his name.Spieth’s Bethpage Black christening is one of the main storylines of the weekend. February 17, 2016 Governor Wolf Welcomes SeaLand Atlantico Service To Port Of Philadelphia Economy, Jobs That Pay, Port Development Philadelphia, PA – Governor Tom Wolf today welcomed a new shipping service to the Packer Avenue Terminal in South Philadelphia that will link directly with port operations on the Gulf of Mexico. SeaLand, the intra-Americas regional ocean carrier of the Maersk Group, launched its “Atlantico” service between Veracruz, Altamira and Philadelphia earlier this month.“The arrival of SeaLand Atlantico is great news for exporters in the Greater Philadelphia metro area, and it is also great news for the commonwealth’s economy,” Governor Wolf said. “Mexico is the second largest export market for Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and this means manufacturers from the Greater Philadelphia metro area now have a more efficient, economical way to get to the growing markets of Mexico. It’s exactly the kind of growth my administration likes to see as we continue to invest in and improve the Port of Philadelphia.”The Atlantico service offers an alternative transportation option for trade between the Gulf of Mexico and Eastern United States, which generally employs ground transportation on 95% of its volumes. This line will particularly benefit producers and exporters of perishable goods to the U.S. by providing economies of scale, security and reliability of an ocean service. Targeted commodities include goods such as avocados, lemons, tomatoes and commercial cargo.“We’re very excited about this new weekly service with Mexico,” said Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) Chairman Jerry Sweeney. “It’s another example of the kinds of things that happen at the Port when you have great public-private partnerships in place. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is proud to invest in its marine terminals and provide support in helping secure new business to the Port.”Last fall, Governor Wolf announced his strategic plan to ensure long-term stability and growth at the Port of Philadelphia:Governor Wolf has named seven new board members to the Philadelphia Port Authority, including Chairman Sweeney. Aston Villa are in the process of discussing a new deal with manager Paul Lambert, according to reports. Gerard Houllier and then Alex McLeish unsuccessfully took the helm prior to Lambert’s appointment, with the latter since having built a good rapport with both Lerner and Faulkner. The 44-year-old Scot has been given money to spend, although has had to cut his cloth more accordingly, which has resulted in the exit of a number of high-wage earners. Many Villa fans, however, remain unconvinced because – although Lambert just kept the club in the Barclays Premier League last season – there have been some shocking results. Most notable amongst them was the 8-0 hammering at Chelsea, plus the Capital One Cup semi-final embarrassment to Bradford last term. This season Villa’s wretched home form has been a major cause for concern, including another humiliating defeat just a month ago to Sheffield United in the FA Cup. But then Villa have also taken some notable scalps, such as those of Arsenal and Manchester City, whilst crucially beating West Brom last week in the Midlands derby. Given the amicable nature between Lambert, Lerner and Faulkner, the situation is understood to be an amicable one, with no pressure on any party. Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner is understood to have opened talks with Lambert, who is currently in the middle of a three-year contract he signed following his arrival from Norwich in the summer of 2012. Faulkner and owner Randy Lerner are determined to bring stability to Villa following a turbulent period that came after Martin O’Neill’s departure two years previously. Press Association

Starting from 144 for 4, India’s middle to lower batting order gave up in front of a dominating Kiwi bowling attack, ending their run on a score of 191. However, the 31 year old is keeping a positive mindset for the next games to come. “For some people, it might be the end of the world but it’s not.
