Definition of tourism by Darko Bastić, director of the Olympia and Olympia Sky hotel complexes

first_img“Supporting local producers and fishermen ensures their sustainability in the future. Homemade food is fresh and seasonal, and in our house, as we like to call ourselves, because we are one big family, only the highest quality food is served. Locally grown food has a finer taste and a better look, and in addition to supporting our local producers, hotel guests are more than delighted. If desired, we can take each guest to see live domestic production”Pointed out the director of the complex, Darko Bastić. Win-win for everyone. On the other hand, by using domestic and local products, we stimulate the local economy, reduce costs, have fresh and most important quality food and, ultimately, a unique tourist product. Tourism itself does not make sense, if we do not have such an important authenticity in our offer in all its forms, which generates added value through the development of all other industries that are developing vertically and horizontally with tourism. It is precisely this tourist spending that must go down to the local economy, not to encourage imports through tourism. It is also one of our biggest tourism problems – that we have relatively low tourism spending, low value for money, honor with positive examples, and that that spending does not go down to the local economy. Except through rent, of course, which each is not enough as we see in our example. But it was on this very topic that I was thrilled to talk to Darko Bastić, director of the Olympia and Olympia Sky hotel complex in Vodice, with whom he could talk for hours without ever looking at the clock, and who explained the whole definition of tourism in just two statements. What is the definition of tourism? blah, blah, ba⁇. could point out to me a variety of different definitions. But one is theory, and quite another is practice. Mine is how tourism consists of emotions, experiences and stories. In these two statements, the definition of tourism is explained in the simplest practical way. Case study for all students of tourism faculties. On the other hand, the promise of how a guest can see domestic production live is an extremely powerful and great sales point. ”Local producers are not anonymous and take their responsibility to the consumer seriously. Knowing that our food has a story and originates from one of our neighbors, the meal is much tastier”Concluded Bastic. Photo: OLYMPIA VODICE Also, in previous years, over a hundred olive trees were planted, which today are thanks to their fruits and excellent olive oil, which is used not only for an excellent tourist product through picking olives with its guests, but also in the restaurant. So from the first day in the kitchen of the hotel complex Olympia and Olympia Sky is used as many indigenous products – from fish and seafood from local fishermen, meat products from the hinterland, vegetables and fruits… So simple, right? But the main question is why? As the icing on the cake, the home in the hotel complex Olympia and Olympia Sky has found numerous swallows that return to their nests every year and additionally give that authentic experience and complete this great story and experience. Diversity in culture and way of life makes tourism what it is, and that is exactly the main essence of tourism – authenticity, ie the holy grail in tourism that creates the motive of arrival. That is why the main tourist product must be our authentic story, because if all destinations are the same, then why would people travel?center_img It is the scent that is extremely strong in evoking memory, and in combination with taste, the other three senses (hearing, sight, touch) make a unique formula for success in marketing and branding because, according to Lindstrom, 90 percent of our consumer behavior seems unconscious. And that is exactly why, authenticity creates a unique product that cannot be copied, and awakens all the senses as the best marketing tool. Sporki macaroni, Soparnik, pasticada, rožata and many other gastronomic specialties of Dalmatian cuisine are an integral part of the gastronomic offer of the hotel complex Olympia and Olympia Sky. Although it should be normal and natural, unfortunately it is very rare in our tourism. “Where we eat, where we spend time, where we shop – all this makes our hotel home“Is the message of the Olympia and Olympia Sky hotel complex from Vodice, to which they promote their business mission through cooperation with local producers, family farms and small fishermen. A bold message and a promise, but most importantly, it is not just a promotional message, but at the Olympia Hotel behind this promise. Smells and tastes are not forgotten, as Martin Lindstrom, a leading brand expert and consultant of the world’s largest brands, says in his book “Brand Sense”, where he emphasizes that 75% of the emotions we generate during the day are through the sense of smell, not sight. But let’s go in order… Tourism as it should be. Local, local and authentic. This is the quality on which we must be based and the answer to the question of how to extend the tourist season and justify the value for money. And not that along the Adriatic Sea which offers us an abundance of fresh fish, we sell frozen fish from Argentina. Insane and counterproductive! And that is why the key question when we talk about the strategic and sustainable development of our tourism is precisely: What is the monthly demand for domestic eggs in each destination? Quality, domestic product and authentic story – must be an imperative in tourism. Also in the hotel complex Olympia and Olympia Sky during the year they organize the fair “Taste of Dalmatia” where local products are promoted, various themed Dalmatian evenings – all with the aim of promoting local and indigenous products. Again, connecting with people who create the food and products that guests consume with their own hands and effort. An experience that guests will never forget. Of course, the adoption of gastronomy gives us hundreds of ways to modernize our traditional cuisine, but the base still has to be local recipes, but interpreted in a modern way. “Homemade products are fresh and are usually sold within 24 hours after they are harvested or collected. If we buy products in large retail chains, it is very likely that they have been stored for days or weeks. For local farmers, food is seasonal because not all food is available all year round. This does not allow our guests to enjoy food that is at the peak of quality when buying at any time of the year. ” adds Bastic.last_img read more

That’s easy. I just pick them on merit.”Confidence and momentum is great. It’s not quite momentum yet but it is a good feeling to see the team play how they did. Meeting with PM wont stop BCs opposition to pipeline Horgan

first_imgHe said Notley and the prime minister should at least consider building more oil refineries in Canada.Horgan, who has often suggested building more refineries, said he will raise the issue in Sunday’s meeting.“If they have disposable billions, I would suggest a better course of action would be investing in refining capacity so that we Canadians can benefit from the jobs and we Canadians can benefit from this natural resource rather than sending it in raw form to another jurisdiction,” he said.By Dirk MeissnerTHE CANADIAN PRESS Trudeau summoned Horgan and Notley for the meeting over the escalating dispute. The prime minister is attending the Summit of the Americas in Peru, but will return to Canada for the meeting before heading to Europe on a trade mission.Kinder Morgan, the pipeline’s operator, turned up the heat last week announcing it is stopping essential spending on the $7.4-billion Trans Mountain expansion because of opposition and delays in B.C. The company established a May 31 deadline for action.“I’m happy to hear what the prime minister and perhaps Rachel Notley has to say,” Horgan said. “I don’t feel there’s any need for sabre-rattling or provocation, nor for threats.”Notley said her New Democrat government is preparing to introduce legislation that could reduce the flow of oil to B.C., which is likely to cause gas prices to spike in the Vancouver area, where motorists are already paying more than $1.50 per litre. On Thursday in Edmonton, Notley didn’t appear to soften her stand ahead of the meeting.“There is one and only one solution, and that solution is that the pipeline gets built without delay.” Trudeau was in Vancouver and Victoria last week where he was met by protests, but reiterated the federal government approved the pipeline project in November 2016 and will ensure it is built. The federal cabinet held an emergency meeting this week and has since voiced its support for the project.Horgan said B.C. intends to pursue court action that involves seeking a constitutional reference case to determine who has the jurisdiction to permit the pipeline to cross B.C.“We are in court following the rule of law. We’re developing a question with respect to jurisdiction that will be referred to a court in short order and as far as I’m concerned we are issuing (project) permits as requested by the proponent.”Green Party leader Andrew Weaver said the federal and Alberta governments are missing an opportunity to bring Canada’s economy into the 21st century by supporting the expansion project.center_img VICTORIA, B.C. — A defiant British Columbia Premier John Horgan said he won’t back down from his government’s opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline project when he meets Sunday with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.Horgan said Thursday he will go to Ottawa to hear what the prime minister and Alberta premier have to say, but if they expect him to drop B.C.’s court actions or its advocacy for protection from oil spills, they are mistaken.“I will defend to the end the rights of B.C. to stand up and defend our coast,” Horgan said during an outdoor news conference near a legislature flower garden. “This is a serious issue for British Columbians and I’ll do my level best to make sure the premier of Alberta and the prime minister understand that.”last_img read more

The Arizona Cardinals Have Been The Luckiest Team In The NFL

With an 11-3 record, the Arizona Cardinals were the first team in the NFC to clinch a playoff berth and have already tied their franchise record for wins in a season. All this, despite losing their top two quarterbacks, Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton, to injury. With a win Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks, the Cardinals would clinch the NFC West and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. But much like the Florida State Seminoles in their run to the College Football Playoff, the Cardinals have eked out wins in a lot of close games. So the question remains, are the Cardinals lucky or good? They’re lucky — Arizona probably isn’t as strong as its record — but also have been one of the most clutch teams in the NFL this season.Let’s begin with the luck. The most unambiguous measure of luck in football is fumble recoveries. They tend to be random acts, and a team with an unusually high fumble recovery rate one year generally regresses to the mean the next. The Cardinals lead the NFL in fumble recovery percentage; they’ve recovered 17 of 27 (63 percent).More generally, Arizona has not controlled games like a team that has won 11 of its first 14 games. The Cardinals have had, on average, a 52 percent chance to win across all of their plays in all of their games this season, which ranks 15th in the NFL. Every other team with at least 10 wins ranks in the top 10 in average win probability.A team with an average win probability around 50 percent would be expected to win about half of its games. Similarly, a team with a scoring margin of +43 — as the Cardinals have through 14 games — would be expected to win about eight games.Pythagorean expectations, which were first popularized by baseball’s Bill James and then translated to the NFL, can be used to estimate how many games a team “should” win based on its points scored and points allowed. By this measure, the Cardinals have 2.7 more wins than would be expected. That is the biggest difference between expected wins and actual wins in the NFL and the largest by a team since the Colts went 11-5 in the 2012 season with a negative scoring margin.A higher-than-expected win total suggests a team is winning close games, which is exactly what Arizona is doing. The Cardinals are 5-0 in games decided by eight points or fewer, the best winning percentage and tied for the most wins in the NFL. Arizona has an NFL-high four wins in which they trailed entering the fourth quarter.Winning close games, however, is not purely luck. The Cardinals have an uncanny ability to perform their best with the game on the line. They lead the NFL in points allowed (43), points margin (+59) and turnover margin (+12) in the fourth quarter. And a metric called win probability added, which looks at a team’s contributions to winning (accounting for late, close-game situations), has them atop the NFL when adding their offensive, defensive and special teams WPA.A mixture of luck and clutch plays have the Cardinals one win away from home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. With a 7-0 record at home, who knows what will happen once the playoffs begin, as the Cardinals look to complete one of the most improbable runs in NFL history. read more
