Hitman Rohit Sharma is a crowd-puller in Sri Lanka

first_imgSri Lanka loves its cricket. And it loves cricketers – even ones who have thrashed their bowlers to create history.Rohit Sharma might have tormented Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens to smash a record-shattering 264 in 2014 but he is loved and adored in the Emerald Isles.Back in India’s Test squad for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, Rohit has warmed the bench in Galle and Colombo. However, he has still had a good time, back with his buddies.Rohit also has a lot of buddies off the field – he is a rage among the locals. During the Colombo Test, a few Sri Lankan fans sang for him and then a few came up to visit him during practice.Rohit returned to the Indian team during the Champions Trophy and made an immediate impact with a string of impressive scores. However, he was rested for the limited-overs tour of West Indies to give him adequate rest. The stylish Mumbai batsman was out of the team for nearly seven months after sustaining an injury against New Zealand in October 2016.last_img read more

La Liga: Real Madrid fail to profit from Barcelona stumble but Atletico Madrid take advantage

first_imgReal Madrid failed to take advantage of La Liga leaders’ Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao, while Atletico Madrid profited by beating Real Sociedad 2-1.Antoine Griezmann’s 88th minute strike saw Atletico complete a comeback after falling behind in the first half to cut their deficit with Barca to six points, while Real stay eight behind Ernesto Valverde’s side. Second-placed Valencia can go two points behind Barca, who have 36 after 14 games, if they beat Getafe on Sunday.Barca also went behind in the early game as Celta striker Iago Aspas silenced the Nou Camp by putting the visitors ahead in the 20th minute. However, goals from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez either side of halftime put Barca in front.Celta’s Uruguayan striker Maxi Gomez levelled in the 70th minute, capitalising on Barca defender Samuel Umtiti tearing his hamstring as he tried to keep up with the Spanish forward.Real were up against an Athletic side in crisis, sitting 16th in the standings and reeling from a shock King’s Cup defeat to tiny Formentera. But the Basques upped their game with the help of the raucous home support and frustrated the champions, who hit the woodwork twice and had Sergio Ramos sent off.Photo Credit: ReutersThe Real captain returned to action wearing a protective mask after two weeks out with a broken nose and picked up an early booking for elbowing Raul Garcia. His second came with four minutes remaining for striking Aritz Aduriz, earning a record-extending 19th red card in La Liga.advertisement”Real Madrid are eight points behind Barcelona because we have lacked goals this season,” said Real coach Zinedine Zidane. “The biggest change from last season is the results, I don’t think we are playing any different. Last season we won games in the last minute and now we can’t seem to find the net.”FRUSTRATING AFTERNOONBarca’s frustrating afternoon at a cold and sparsely attended Nou Camp was made worse by France international Umtiti being ruled out for eight weeks, including missing the Clasico at champions Real Madrid on Dec. 23.”The injury cost us the goal, it was an accumulation of catastrophes, because of the draw and the injury,” Valverde told a news conference.”Losing Samuel right now is a big loss, he was in excellent form.”Barca bombarded Celta’s area in the remaining 20 minutes after Gomez’s equaliser, with Gerard Pique hitting the near post from close range, but could not avoid dropping points for the second game in a row for the first time this campaign.”We kept trying to win the game and had chances to do that. We have dropped two points but this is nothing that hasn’t happened before,” Valverde added.Atletico moved to within six points of Barca thanks to Griezmann’s late strike after Filipe Luis had cancelled out Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose’s first half penalty in the 63rd.Photo Credit: ReutersGriezmann, who came through the academy at Real Sociedad before being sold to Atletico for 25 million euros ($30 million) in 2014, slid in at the far post to nudge in Saul Niguez’s header and keep Atletico’s title hopes alive, but chose not to celebrate the goal.”We’re happy to have got the job done in a really difficult game which quickly went uphill for us,” Atletico coach Diego Simeone said.”We have to appreciate the pride we showed in the second half, our intensity, insistence and bravery. We now have renewed energy which helped us to take the next step. We missed a lot of chances but we never stopped trying.”last_img read more

MS Dhoni can run just as fast as 24-year-old Hardik Pandya. Here’s proof

first_imgMS Dhoni is 12 years older than Hardik Pandya but when it comes to speed, agility and fitness, even young 20-somethings find it almost impossible to match the former skipper.Dhoni and Pandya set off for a 100m race in Mohali before the start of the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka and there was very little to choose before Dhoni shot past Pandya for a short while before both runners ended the sprint.Dhoni has been one of the fittest cricketers in the globe since his international debut back in 2004. As wicketkeeper, batsman and captain in all three formats for years, the Jharkhand superstar stressed on fitness and led from the front.A quick 100 metre dash between @msdhoni and @hardikpandya7. And guess what! Axar was beaten hands down. By the end of the race, he admitted it was a hard task to beat those two.advertisementlast_img read more

LeBron Promises To Bring The Heat

first_imgSAN ANTONIO — Early the night of June 15, LeBron James will gather his Miami Heat teammates around him and offer a few final words of wisdom before they try to extend their reign as NBA champions.James never rehearses the speech, but already knows what the gist will be.“It would be in the range of, ‘Why not us?’” James said. “Why not us? History is broken all the time. And obviously we know we’re against the greatest of odds.”Against the greatest of odds, against maybe the greatest of San Antonio Spursteams, too. Both are very much against the Heat now, and both are winning. The Spurs are a victory away from their fifth championship, and will go for it at home June 15 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The Spurs are the 32nd team in NBA history to hold a 3-1 lead in the finals. All 31 of the previous teams have won the title.“History is made to be broken, and why not me be a part of it? That would be great,” James said. “That would be a great story line, right? But we’ll see what happens. I’ve got to live in the moment, though, before we even get to that point.”The Spurs have the same way of thinking. They took command of the finals in stunning fashion by not just winning in Miami, but winning twice — and winning big. San Antonio won Games 3 and 4 on the road by a combined 40 points, never trailing by more than two in either contest and running out to 25-point leads in each.“We’ve got to act like we’re coming into it like it’s a road game,” Spurs guard Danny Green said. “It’s a mentality thing. We have to come up with the same mentality we do on the road and try to protect home court and play with desperation.”There was no talk from the Spurs about closing in on a title, or anything remotely close to that topic. They thought they had it wrapped up with 28 seconds left in Game 6 last season against Miami and saw it slip away — so even with a 3-1 lead and being at home instead the road for this potential clinching situation, it’s pretty clear that San Antonio isn’t willing to leave anything to chance.“They’re going to come out and give us their best punch possible,” Spurs star Tim Duncan said.“We know that they’re back-to-back champs and they’ve been in this situation before and they have all the confidence in the world that they can win these games. So we have to do just the same. Come out there and say, hey, we’re going to take it little by little, quarter by quarter, and see what happens.”That all sounds good, and he meant every word.Thing is, the Heat — these Heat, anyway — haven’t been in this situation before. Since James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh teamed up, the Heat have never trailed 3-1 in a series.Until now.“We’re not so entitled or jaded that we’re above having to fight for it, and that’s what it is right now,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “It’s competition. So we’ve got to find a way to fight and get this next game, and that’s what it’s all about.”Miami took a day off Friday. Mario Chalmers played with his son, James watched some film and rested at home, Udonis Haslem tried to relax with family. Wade, who missed nine of his first 10 shots — raising questions about his health — went a different way.He went into the gym, by himself, looking for answers. “I have very good reason that everything could change,” Wade said. “As I continue to say throughout the season, it’s a game-to-game thing.”Wade was down 2-0 in the 2006 finals, and trailed by 13 points in the fourth quarter of Game 3 of that series against Dallas. The Heat won that championship in six games.“You have to pull from your experiences,” Wade said, “and know where you came from to know where you’re trying to go.”That also applies to the Spurs.Losing the last two games of the finals last year still stings San Antonio. That series was portrayed widely as the Spurs’ last hurrah — an aging team with old stars, there’s no way they could come back from something as devastating as letting the 2013 championship slip away, right?Wrong. The Spurs finished with the best record in the regular season, and are one win shy of just being the best team, period.“Whatever success anyone has is due to a lot of factors,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Some of it is not even your doing. Sometimes things just happen. So success is a pretty complicated thing.”So are comebacks. But James is eager for the chance. “For me, it’s like you either don’t make the playoffs or you win a championship,” James said. “There’s no in-between.”(TIM REYNOLDS, AP Basketball Writer)TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img read more

Blackhawks Glide By Islanders, 4-1

first_imgCHICAGO — Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks have picked up their games since leading scorer Patrick Kane went down with an injury.Toews scored twice and assisted on both of linemate Marian Hossa’s goals to lead Chicago past the slumping New York Islanders 4-1 on March 18.Toews recorded his first four-point game this season as the Blackhawks won their third straight and improved to 7-1-1 since Feb. 24 when Kane — whose 64 points were tied for the NHL lead at the time — broke his collarbone against Florida.Toews has seven goals and five assists in his last 10 games. In this one, he and Hossa produced as the result of dogged checking and pressure against a New York line centered by NHL leading scorer John Tavares, who was on the ice for all Blackhawks goals.“One of our top goals is to frustrate whatever line we’re up against,” Toews said. “We did that. I think the better we played defensively, the more we were able to create offense, whether it was off the rush or keeping them in their zone.”Hossa, with 21 goals, reached the 20-goal mark for the 14th time in 16 full NHL seasons. The 36-year-old forward missed it only during his rookie season and in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign.“I think we played the right way,” Hossa said. “We checked their top line really well. We didn’t give them too many chances. That was the key.”Kane isn’t expected to return before late May, should the Blackhawks have another deep playoff run.“Obviously, one player can’t step up and start producing and playing like Patrick Kane,” said Patrick Sharp, who skated with Toews and Hossa. “The team in general has played good hockey. We’re moving on and hope he comes back soon and helps us.”New York’s Nikolay Kulemin scored at 5:29 of third period to end Corey Crawford’s shutout bid, but the Islanders lost their season-worst fourth straight.Although Crawford made 38 saves, he wasn’t tested heavily by the goal-starved Islanders. New York has scored only one goal in each of its four consecutive losses. The Islanders are five points behind the Atlantic Division-leading New York Rangers, who have played four fewer games.Besides not generating enough chances, the Islanders were guilty of costly turnovers.“To me it’s making the right decision,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. “If you want to talk about the game tonight, we didn’t manage the puck.”New York needs to fight through challenges. “We’ve got to see some guys play with a little more grit and desperation in the game,” Capuano said. “That’s the one thing that bothers me a little bit.”New York’s Michal Neuvirth made 26 saves in his second straight start and fourth game with the Islanders since being acquired from Buffalo on March 2.Jaroslav Halak, who established an Islanders record and a career-best for wins this season, sat out due to a lower-body injury. He didn’t make the trip to Chicago and is listed as day-to-day.Halak is 34-15-1 with a 2.46 goals-against average in 50 games this season.Toews scored twice in the first period, both on backhanders that beat Neuvirth on the short side, to give the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead.“First half of the game was just, I don’t know why we’re not engaged,” Tavares said. “We just did not do anything well.”Toews opened the scoring 7:01 in when his centering attempt from the right corner — with his back turned — struck the stick of Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan and deflected in just inside the right post.Toews made it 2-0 with 3:56 left in the period when he shoveled the puck from the low edge of the right circle. It struck Neuvirth high on the left arm and carried into the net.The Islanders failed to score during a 5-minute major power play that resulted when Andrew Shaw head-butted Brock Nelson at 5:30 of the second. New York managed only one shot during the long advantage after Shaw was ejected from the game.Moments after Nelson missed a chance with Crawford down and out of position, Hossa was set up by Toews and scored with 6:05 left in the second to make it 3-0.Toews battled New York’s Thomas Hickey for the puck in the left circle and sent a pass across the slot to Hossa, who fired a one-timer past Neuvirth’s glove.Hossa stretched Chicago’s lead to 4-0 at 57 seconds of the third when Sharp’s centering pass bounded off his left skate and into the net. The goal withstood a video review.Kulemin cut it to 4-1 at 5:29 when he fired in a shot from the left circle after Tyler Kennedy’s drive from the right side bounded to him off the skate of Chicago’s Duncan Keith.(MATT CARLSON)TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img read more

US Women U19 Hoop Champs

first_imgCHEKHOV, Russia — South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson led the U.S. to its record sixth straight women’s under-19 world basketball title and seventh overall, scoring 30 points in the Americans’ 78-70 victory over Russia on July 26 in the championship game.Wilson broke the U.S. women’s scoring record in a U19 game and averaged 18.3 points in the tournament to take MVP honors.“It was so tough,” Wilson said about playing against host Russia. “I thought away games were tough, but playing an away game in a whole different country against the home team is just out of this world. Estonia the Chances…Greece the 3 Points!

first_imgGreece continued their perfect record in World cup Qualifying! The Galanolefki came away with a difficult 0-2 victory with goals from Torosidis (65 seconds into play) and a clever free-kick from Kostas Stafylidis in the 61st minute. Estonia was the side that controlled the possession and created most of the chances in the game, but Greece proved more effective in converting their opportunities into goals. Greece’s next match will be a “derby” when they host Bosnia in November.Greece began with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Karnezis (GK), Torosidis (RB), Manolas (CB), Papastathopoulos (CB), Stafylidis (LB), Maniatis (CDM), K. Papadopoulos (CDM), Bakasetas (RM), Mantalos (CAM), Karelis (LM), and Mitroglou (CF).Our National Team could not have asked for a better start. Sixty five seconds into play, Mantalos’ corner was turned in by a well-placed header from Torosidis to give Greece the early 0-1 lead in Estonia. Although the goal took the pressure off the Galanolefki, two injuries within the first 18 minutes (Papastathopoulos and Torosidis) seemed to rattle Greece for the rest of the half. Papastathopoulos was taken off for Tachtsidis (moved K. Papadopoulos to centerback) and the goal scorer, Torosidis, was replaced by Oikonomou (K. Papadopoulos moved to right back). Sloppy and unconfident play from Greece gave Estonia most of the possession in the half as the home side pressed on for a equalizer. The Greek defense stepped up to the task at hand and cleared the many crosses that came in from the wings, holding onto their advantage at halftime. Greece did not show much improvement in the second half with Estonia continuing to control the possession. But it was Greece who found the all important second goal when Stafylidis’ clever free-kick curled around the wall to find the back of the net, giving Greece the 0-2 advantage. With the comfortable lead, Greece sat back as Estonia continued their pressure and tested Karnezis on multiple occasions. Karnezis was at the right place at the right time to deny Estonia the goal that would get the hosts back into the game. In the 79th minute, against the run of play, Mantalos’ shot was inches away from giving Greece their third goal on the night, but the crossbar denied the AEK player. In the final 10 minutes, Estonia continued their heavy pressure with Greece holding on to their 0-2 victory and their perfect record in Group H.Today’s difficult victory shows that the Greek National Team is back on track to contest a place at another major tournament. The win not only comes away from home, but with many injuries in the line-up, including Tzavellas, Samaris, and Fortounis while the two leaders of the National Team, Torosidis and Papastathopoulos, were both knocked out early in today’s match. The overall performance in Estonia was not the best, but the three points in qualifying is what will count at the end of the day. With today’s result, Greece remains one of only 3 teams that have won their first 3 qualifiers along with Belgium (defeated Gibraltar 0-6) and Switzerland. Greece sits atop of Group H with Belgium before their first big clash when they host Bosnia in November. The Bosnians, who are Greece’s main opponents for second in the group, defeated Cyprus 2-0 with two second half goals.Source: www.agonasport.com (Like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and Twitter)TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img read more

Mantzaris’s late free throws lift Olympiacos in Barcelona (video)

first_imgIn a thriller that went down to the wire, Olympiacos Piraeus grabbed its third straight win by downing FC Barcelona Lassa 67-69 at Palau Blaugrana on Thursday. Despite playing without star guard Vassilis Spanoulis, Olympiacos improved to 12-5 to rank second in the standings, while Barcelona dropped to 7-10. Georgios Printezis led the winners with 16 points and 9 rebounds and Matt Lojeski added 11, but it was Vangelis Mantzaris who became Olympiacos’s hero with the game-winning free throws with 7.4 seconds left. Petteri Koponen led Barcelona with 16 points, Tyrese Rice added 16 and Ante Tomic had 12 for the hosts. Olympiacos limited Barcelona to 18-of-47 two-point shooting (38.3%) and only committed 9 turnovers in two of the keys to this exciting game.Justin Doellman, Rice and Juan Carlos Navarro each struck from beyond the arc in the opening three minutes to give Barcelona an early 9-7 lead. Rice kept pushing Barcelona with a floater and Tomic added a layup for a 13-7 score. Nikola Milutinov took over with a put-back layup and got help from Printezis and Erick Green to keep Olympiacos within 15-13. Victor Claver hit free throws and Koponen added a triple, but Green answered with an acrobatic shot from downtown at the first-quarter buzzer to make it 20-17. Green hit another three-pointer early in the second, but consecutive layups by Sasha Vezenkov and Koponen kept Barcelona ahead, 24-22. Dominic Waters sank a mid-range jumper and a corner triple by Lojeski gave Olympiacos the lead, 26-27. Tomic hit back-to-back jump hooks – one with each hand – and Koponen hit a three-pointer in transition to put Barcelona ahead 33-29 at halftime.Kostas Papanikolaou nailed a triple soon after the break and Lojeski added a jumper to put Olympiacos on top, 33-34. Printezis scored three times around the basket and Papanikolaou buried another three-pointer for a 39-44 Olympiacos edge. Rice hit a floater and fed Joey Dorsey for an alley-oop slam, but Printezis and Papanikolaou kept the guests ahead. Koponen stepped up for Barcelona and a buzzer-beating slam by Dorsey brought the hosts within 54-56 after 30 minutes. Dorsey and Alex Renfroe fueled a 6-0 run that put Barcelona up 60-56 early in the fourth quarter. Tomic scored down low and a layup by Rice caused Olympiacos to call timeout at 64-58 with more than four minutes left. Vangelis Mantzaris nailed a triple, Printezis added free throws and a dunk by Milutinov gave Olympiacos a 64-65 lead in the next-to-last minute. Lojeski buried a fade-away jumper that Koponen matched with a three-pointer that tied it at 67-67 with 26.7 seconds left. Mantzaris drew a foul with 7.4 seconds to go and calmly made both attempts for a 67-69 score. Rice missed an off-balance driving shot at the buzzer. Janz Tec: new CAN-PCIe/FD with guaranteed data transfer rate of up to 8 MBit/s

first_imgIn addition to the tried and tested CAN-PMC/FD, Janz Tec is expanding its portfolio to include the new CAN-PCIe/FD, which is available with up to 4 CAN channels. Supported operating systems include various Linux distributions as well as Windows 7 and 10.The CAN-PCIe/FD is a CAN interface for the PCI Express socket. It makes it possible to connect embedded systems to as many as four CAN FD networks. A feature which sets the CAN-PCIe/FD apart is its guaranteed data transfer rate of up to 8 MBit/s, which makes it possible, for example, to distribute updates to control devices more quickly. With an expanded operating temperature range from 0°C to +70°C, the board is optimised for the industrial environment and can be used in a broad range of applications. The board has two independent CAN-FD channels, which can be supplemented by up to two additional CAN-FD-expandable interfaces via transceiver modules. Along with guaranteeing a higher bandwidth for the transfer of data than CAN. CAN-FD can also be used flexibly. Applications range from automotive applications with higher data rates, to testing and development tasks and simulations and monitoring, to the use in future-orientated, autonomous vehicles.Share this:TwitterFacebookLinkedInMoreRedditTumblrPinterestWhatsAppSkypePocketTelegram Tags: Boards & Modules Continue Reading Previous EKF: PCIe card fits into CompactPCI Serial systemsNext acceed: Nuvo-5026E with several specifiable optionslast_img read more
