Sachin Tendulkar weighs in with his thoughts2019 Cricket World Cup: Former India captain and batting great, Sachin Tendulkar has opined that it will be difficult for Virat Kohli’s men to accommodate a third wicketkeeper-batsman in Rishabh Pant for the showpiece event in England, starting May 30.advertisement India Today Web Desk MumbaiJanuary 16, 2019UPDATED: January 16, 2019 21:04 IST Rishabh Pant is not part of India squad for the ongoing ODI series in Australia and the upcoming limited-overs series in New Zealand (@BCCI Photo)HIGHLIGHTSSachin Tendulkar believes Rishabh Pant’s inclusion may affect the combination of Team IndiaRishabh Pant has established himself as the first-choice wicketkeeper in TestsPant, who has played 3 ODIs, scored more than Virat Kohli in India’s 2-1 Test series win in AustraliaBatting great Sachin Tendulkar has hinted it will be difficult to accommodate young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in India’s squad for the 2019 World Cup, starting May 30 in England.21-year-old Rishabh Pant did not find a place in the Indian ODI and T20I squads for the ongoing limited-over series in Australia and the upcoming series in New Zealand, starting January 23. Pant will be part of India A squad that will be taking on England Lions in a five-match unofficial ODI series, starting January 23 in Thiruvananthapuram. While eyebrows were raised at his exclusion from the limited-over squads especially after Pant surpassed captain Virat Kohli’s tally in the four-match Test series in Australia, head coach Ravi Shastri and chief selector MSK Prasad had told India Today that Pant would definitely be part of India’s World Cup plans. However, Tendulkar has opined that the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batsman Pant may affect the team combination as India already have MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik (two wicketkeepers) as part of the squad.Notably, Dhoni and Karthik, who is part of the playing XI as a speciallist batsman, combined on Tuesday in Adelaide to help India to a series-levelling win in the ongoing three-match series against Australia.”It’s a nice thought (to have Pant in) but we have already got Dhoni and Karthik playing as a batter, we have two wicket-keepers, who have contributed in our success yesterday. They have had a crucial partnership which won us the match,” Tendulkar said on his app 100MB, as quoted by the PTI.advertisement”So if you are looking to have Pant in the team that means you have to remove a proper batter or one bowler, and I don’t think we can afford to remove a bowler. So if he replaces a proper batter who doesn’t bowl, then it’s okay but if he is going to replace an all-rounder then that’s going to cost us,” Tendulkar added.Tendulkar heaps praise on MS Dhoni, Dinesh KarthikMeanwhile, Tendulkar also heaped praise on MS Dhoni, who managed to silence his critics with a match-winning half-century in the Adelaide ODI. The World Cup-winning former captain faced flak after taking 96 balls to score 51 in India’s 34-run defeat in the series opener in Sydney but he slammed a 54-ball 55 to help India gun down a 299-run target on Tuesday.”He (Dhoni) is someone who loves to play a few dot balls, understand the wicket, how the bowlers are bowling and likes to take the game till the end. That is exactly what he did. He is someone who is going to control the game from one end,” Tendulkar said.He also praised Dinesh Karthik for his role as a “finisher” and complementing Dhoni’s experience during final overs.”And yesterday along with Dhoni, I felt that Dinesh Karthik played rather well as he came and finished the game. It was a fantastic contribution from Dinesh also. Dhoni stayed till the end and his experience mattered.”Also Read | MS Dhoni back with a bang after Adelaide heroics, says Nikhil ChopraAlso Read | Team India still benefitting from MS Dhoni’s finishing abilities: Jason GillespieAlso Read | MS Dhoni did not complete a single and forgot to raise his bat after reaching his fiftyAlso Read | India vs Australia: Why MS Dhoni lost his cool with Khaleel Ahmed in AdelaideAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
