Nearly 35000 Moroccans Acquire Spanish Citizenship

Taroudant – Latest statistics show that 34,807 Moroccan nationals obtained Spanish citizenship in 2014, according to figures published on Friday by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE).A total of 205,880 foreign nationals acquired Spanish nationality in 2014 with Moroccans being the majority (34,807) followed by Ecuadorians and Colombians, with 32,757 and 25,115 respectively.Foreign nationals who received Spanish Nationality by countryBolivians, Peruvians, citizens from the Dominican Republic and Argentineans followed in the ranking.According to the Spanish Institute, about 26,777 people who acquired Spanish nationality were born in Spain, mainly children under 10 years of age. The INE revealed that more than 95 percent were younger than 10 years old, while 79 percent of new citizens were granted Spanish nationality after having lived legally in Spain for 10 years or more.During the period from January to June 2015 the pace of acquisitions of Spanish nationality was lower compared to the previous year.Statistics found that the same top three countries as in 2014 were the most naturalized nationals in the first quarter of 2015, with Morocco (13,858 people), Ecuador (8387) and Colombia (7,036) leading the charts.The 10 most common nationalities to acquire Spanish citizenship.
